Christmas Transformation

I love how this season transforms our home and, in turn, my focus. All of a sudden, it has a new feel- a feeling of awe and excitement. It's special, celebratory. Clearly something amazing is about to happen. We turn candles on in the windows at dusk, leave the Christmas tree lights on all day and evening, read advent scriptures and hang special ornaments, play with figurines Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus and eat way too many cookies. We prepare out hearts as we prepare our home.

  3. Mavis asked about the red stocking. My Grammie (my mom's mom) made each of her grandchildren one and they used to hang from their mantel at Christmas as we were growing up. Opening stockings at Grammie and Pop Pop's was so special because we didn't hang stockings at our house. As filling stockings became too difficult for them (and as we all grew up), they gave us our stockings. On the other side is a snowman and my name. This red stocking doesn't match very well with the other ones that I made for the rest of our family, but I don't care.

It's my stocking and it holds too many memories to replace it with a newer model.

    Thanks for asking:-).

  4. This was just what I needed to see today as we are in the middle of a kitchen remodel and therefor very little is done to get us in the Christmas spirit! I have searching for a Nativity Scene like that on etsy, unfortunately they are sold out on the link you posted.

Your house looks so cozy and inviting, thanks for sharing your celebrations with us.

  6. Gen,

I was looking through your blog today and it was so touching to see Grammie's stocking. I knew exactly where that came from. I have one, too. Every time we take it out, I am reminded of the gift of creating things with others in mind - something I definitely learned from her.

Just a friendly reminder, if you know me personally please try to refrain from using my name. There are those who may try to locate me, break into my pantry and steal my pickled beets. Thanks:-).
